Signs of a malfunctioning CPAP
Most CPAP and bilevel problems can be repaired for much less than the cost of a new machine.
Common signs
- No power, or the machine will not turn on
- Random loss of power
- A loud or noisy blower motor
- Irregular airflow
- Flashing error codes or messages such as "service required"
What causes them
The most common cause is moisture damage from heated humidifiers. Corrosion wears on the blower motor, which gets louder over time and can eventually seize. Even without a humidifier, the blower wears out after years of nightly use.
The electronics are also sensitive to dust and moisture.
How we fix it
Depending on the make and model, we install a new blower when one is available, or service the existing one. We remove any corrosion first. If that does not fix the problem, we replace damaged electronics, when available, so the machine runs within the manufacturer's specifications.
